Vise Collection

I didn't go into this fly tying thing thinking that I was going to start a vise collection.  However, one day my bride Lady Di entered my fly tying "war room" and saw a "few"  vises laying around and said, "My gosh Hon, what are you doing with all those things, anyway?".  The only thing I could come up with was, "starting a vise collection".  What else was I to say.  That is how it all started.

I have picked up some older vises and am always looking for ones that I don't have.  If you have any old vises kicking around and you want to get rid of them, please drop me a line.  I am sure we can arrive at a price.  Also, if you have any information regarding any of the vises you see on this page please email it to me.  I am always interested in their history.

D H Thompson Model F

This vise has tremendously strong jaws. It is a real pleasure to use.  My guess it is from the 50's.  According to the DH Thompson website, this vise originally sold for $1.65!

D H Thompson Model C

This vise with it's horizontal jaws make tying throats on flies a cinch. Originially sold for $2.25.

D H Thompson Model B

The predecessor to the famous Thompson A.  This vise originally sold for $3.50.

Universal Model 2

This is the vise shown in the original Universal Fly Tying Guide by Dick Stewart.  Produced by the Universal Vise Company. This vise is probably one of the first truly rotary vises.  The vise will lock in position every 90 degrees.

D H Thompson Model A

The original  Model A sold for a whopping $6.00.  In Thompson's catalog it was referred to as the "incomparable tool of the fly tyer".
