Jaeger watching American Gun Dog
Holden -
Wigglebutts D-Day, code name "Jaeger" has joined the Annika Rod and Fly
staff as
the clubhouse dog. He moved in with the Coreys on Saturday,
March
14, 2009. He is adjusting well to life at the Coreys and he has
already staked his claim on the overstuffed chair in the tying
room. As soon
as he and King Lilo come to an agreement on peaceful co-existance,
things will be great.
Eldredge Bros.Fly Tying Jamboree II
Instructor Joe Calcavechiaa
Cape
Neddick - If you weren't at Eldredge Bros Fly Shop on March 28,
YOU MISSED IT!!! After a quick stop at KTP, Don and Mike traveled
north to Eldredge Bros. Fly Shop to attend a fantastic Striped Bass fly
tying class given by one of the best, Joe Calcavechiaa. Joe
started out with a flutter wing fly and then one of his favorite "go
to" flies. What a day. Another tip of the cap to Eldredge Bros
for offering the Saturday Jamborees this year. For $5, it is the
deal of the year. For more pictures from Joe's class

Eldredge Bros.Fly Tying Jamboree

Instructor Jeff Faulkner
Cape
Neddick - Don and Mike traveled to Eldredge Bros. Fly Shop on
Saturday, March 8 to attend a Striper Fly tying class with instructor
Jeff Faulkner. It was a packed house for the event. Three flies
were tied during the 2 hour class. The first was a shrimp
pattern, the second a eel pattern and the third (one of Jeff's
favorites) slightly resembled a wild-eyed, white sparrow lashed to a
hook! Jeff did a great job leading the class through each step of
the tying process. He is obviously an extremely talented tyer and
experienced fly fisherman.
The $5 class fee covers all materials and hooks, such a deal!
Thanks to Jeff and Eldredge Bros. for providing this fantastic
class. Check out
Eldredge Bros. website for a complete list of tyers in their Fly
Tying Jamboree Series.

The Fly Fishing Show 2008

Don and the Vise-Meister, Norm
Norlander
Marlborough-The
annual pilgrimage of the fly tying/fishing faithful trekked to The Fly
Fishing Show in Marlborough Massachusetts on Saturday, January 19, 2008
for a little break from the winter season and to dream about the
upcoming fishing season. This years' cast of travel mates
included Mike Curtis, Dan Hodgins, Tifany Lawler, Ed Muzeroll, Jim Snow
and yours truly.
Just
in case you haven't had the good fortune to travel with some of this
group, let me tell you that there was no shortage of tall tales both
going down and coming home (with a little road rage thrown in for good
measure). We arrived at the show late morning and the crowd was
about normal. After making the cursory pass through the show, it
appeared that there were fewer booths this year than in years past. But
that being said, there was plenty to see. A plethora of fly
tyers were also in attendance including: Abrames, Bastian, Chute,
Cordeiro, Fallum, Gartside, Martinek, Plourde, Popovick, Rossman,
Schmookler, Skok, and many more.
As
in years past I always seem to end up at the Nor-Vise booth, mesmerized
as I watched Norm Norlander, creator of the Nor-Vise Fly Tying System
do things on his vise that should be illegal!!
I
even had the good fortune of having a picture taken with the "Vise
Meister" himself (do I look happy?). I have owned a Nor-Vise for
several few years and in my mind there is none better. It really
empowers you to tie better and tie faster.

Pflueger Sal-Trout/Pakron sale
New England's Trolling Gem
Annika Rod and Fly will be
offering for sale a few Pflueger Sal-Trout and Pakron reels. I
have personally gone over each reel and they are oiled, greased and
ready for use. There is nothing like the distinctive sound of a
screaming Sal-Trout putting resistance on ol' Silver Sides!
These Sal-Trout reels are 5" in diameter and will hold a 225 yards of
40 lb. test of your favorite lead/non-lead line (more if using 18 lb
test). The Pakrons are wider and larger and were designed for
saltwater use. Either of these reels is great for trolling
streamers/smelts in the spring or Dave Davis spoons when dredging the
bottom for togue.
Pictures of the reels will be on this site soon as well as a few that I
have stashed away for my own use.
