Maple Syrup Tying Instructions

Recipe

Hook 4xl - 6xl
streamer
Thread 6/0 black
Tail yellow calftail
calf body hair
hackle
Body tan chenille

Start the thread behind the bend and  wrap a thread base as you move towards the eye. Stop the thread 1/8" behind the eye.
Using the pinch method, tie in a small bunch of calftail for the tail.  The tail should be approximately equal in length to the gap of the hook (distance from point to shank). Bind down the butt of the tail material as you wrap to front tie in point.
Tie in a 5" piece of tan chenille using the pinch method.  Secure with 3 tight thread wraps.  Trim any excess over the eye.
Hold the chenille on your side of the hook, parallel to the shank and bind down as you wind the thread to the rear tie in point.  Wrap the thread back towards the eye, binding down the chenille.  Apply some head cement to the body.  Then wrap the chenille in close wraps toward the front tie in point.
Secure the chenille with 3 or 4 tight thread wraps.  Form a small thread head and use 3 half hitches or a whip finish to finish the fly.  Put some head cement on the thread head.
